They say it's the thought that counts, but do any flowers say I didn't think about you more than a dozen red roses? Boring, lacking in personality and wholly impersonal, they are the the Russell Stover of bouquets, and certainly less delicious. (It's hard to screw up chocolate.)Instead, I would love to receive a wild-looking bouquet like these arrangements from Saipua, a florist/soap shop in Brooklyn. I love the simple vases and how each arrangement, bouquet and boutonniere looks like it was gathered in a country meadow.
Anyone else with me on the red roses hate or am I asking too much of our sweet, but hapless valentines? I have to admit I still think it's sweet when my boyfriend brings me flowers even though they totally came from the shady guys outside of the metro...then I deconstruct the entire thing and chuck the baby's breath. Blech.
