I've had this post planned for a while but then I of course saw this archived image last week. {oh well that's the way it goes in blog world} I am sharing the post anyway. I am sweetly, smitten with the girly femininity of Rita Konig's bedroom shot above. I would love to incorporate those heart sheets into my fresh bedroom revamp. D. Porthault makes the version above and below but the sheets in the bottom image are from l. schweitzer linens, they are available for a fraction of the price.

'A corner of my bedroom' series is finally back and today I'm very pleased to share with you the private space of Irene, Author of Bloesem and BloesemKids, two awesome blogs everybody love and if you don't know them yet, you must visit them! Irene is great Dutch lady who also lived in NYC and now is based from Kuala Lumpur. I love her fresh take on design and if you have kids, BloesemKids is a must-go destination.

"The Master bedroom! That is where my husband and I are currently sleeping…a little over a year ago we moved to a real house after living in apartments all our lives and while searching for this house we saw many 'huge' master-bedrooms, apparently very important here in Asia. For us it feels like having a second living-room and I must say we spend quite some time here…Sunday mornings, evenings and when the family wants to watch a movie…the only real TV in our house is in our bedroom. I have tried to make it cozy by adding some nostalgia and sentimental accessories…like a patchwork blanket that I made myself from fabrics that my mom gave to me, my photo-album from when I was a baby, some vintage vases and the old telephone from the Netherlands. A picture of me and my sister is hanging above my bedside table and only recently I added the textile fabric wall decal (yes also made them myself). I love my new necklaces from Kristina Klarin and the yellow hanger is there to give some color to the wall. I wish was allowed to paint the floor black or white….""

DIY project: wooden headboard

For a while, I have been wanted to share with you how I double the height of a basic Malm bedframe by IKEA and and covered it up with grey linens to create a stylish, French-looking headboard for less than £60. Unfortunately the photos I took at the time are pathetic and needs work so in the meantime, I thought I would share this headboard done by House Tweaking. I love wood at home especially recycled wood so I think this one is a great way to make a statement in your bedroom and to create a modern, rustic look.

Alternatively, you can source an old French iron bed and use the top and bottom of the bed to create a headboard for two single beds which is what I did in Mila's bedroom, in our house in France (see below).

Cela fait un moment que je souhaiterais vous expliquer comment j'ai double la hauteur d'une tete de lit Malm d'IKEA pour ensuite la recouvrir de lin gris et creer une tete-de-lit contemporaine pour moins de £60. Malheureusement les photos que j'ai prise sont nulles et ont besoin d'etre retravaillee. En attendant, je vous montre cette tete de lit cree par House Tweaking. A la maison, j'aime avoir du bois surtout du bois recycle et je trouve que celle-ci est une bonne facon de creer un impact visuel dans votre chambre tout en apportant une touche moderne et rustique.
L'autre solution est de trouver un vieux lit en fer dans une brocante, le repeindre et d'utiliser la tete de lit et celle du bas sur deux lits une personne comme je l'ai fait dans la chambre de Mila, dans notre maison en France (voir ci-dessus).

Black and White done right!

When designing with black and white, always be sure to add enough texture, dimension and material interest. If this isn't done the room and/or your outfit will fall flat! These examples are spot on. {I adore this final shot}. Hope you are having a great week.

I'm doing anything I can to mentally escape this frigid winter and the five feet of snow outside my window. I thought I would share some random pink prettiness.

- I love everything about this photo of Jackie O. - The color scheme is very close to my daughter's room. {which I'm slowly finishing}  I also love the quality of light in this image.

- The second image is sort of the direction I am heading in for my own feminine retreat.

Neutral Nelly

I'm not one to shy away from color, but every now and then I have a project where sticking to a neutral palette just feels right. There is something fresh and calm feeling about each of these tonal spaces.

  How about the window behind the cabinet above? Pretty creative use of existing space.

 What about you? Do you crave color or are you a neutral nelly?

Some Like It Dark

I know, I'm two days in a row with the super dark walls.

 The walls look black in these images, but they are actually a deep chocolate brown. I really like how dark walls make everything else pop. Although this room, in sticking with only super dark colors and shades of white, reads so much differently that the one from yesterday. Does it not?Would you ever paint your walls a color this dark?

The Modern Murphy

So one of the many things that excites me about the project I am currently working on is the super modern, super awesome murphy bed we are using in the guestroom/ office. My client has a nice size apartment, but does not want to have a bed compromise space in her second bedroom for the occasional overnight guest. But she does have overnight guests. So in the beginning of the project I suggested a murphy bed. I honestly didn't think we would find anything we loved without going custom, but I was wrong. Check out the modern murphy beds I found at Resource Furniture.

There are also sofa options for tiny apartments.

This is the one we picked.

And if Mr. Sabbe and I ever have kids in the city, this one was amazing.

They are so well designed, standing less than 12" off the wall, and super easy to pull up and down. The furniture is made it Italy, so lead times are a bit long, but I think it's going to be well worth the wait.

Monday= No Fun Day

I have a bad haircut and a big zit on my cheek. Me and my Monday are not so good.

On the contrary, this bedroom is looking veeeery good. Not sure about everything else, but I know the end tables are from IKEA. Hope your Monday is looking better than mine.
