Off-Beat Market: Colin Schaelli

Its Friday and time for another Off-beat market. Check out the furniture of Colin Schaelli. Honestly, these images say it all and don't need me to add much more. Wow!
I posted this photo on my Tumblr site and it sort of stuck in my mind. I had to research where it came from and was glad to find this fantastically minimal series of furnishings.

Occasionally, I'm asked why something as stark as this furniture; appeals to me. What about some color or decorative details? Here's the thing, when there is a beautiful form without too much decoration, my  imagination has the freedom to fill in the details. An overly decorated piece can become static in a way, it is what it is. Is this making sense or am I rambling? Maybe, I just don't like being told what to think:) I would love to know how some of you feel about this.

Feeling Tipsy

Hello, all! I had to share this video of an unbelievable house that is now on the market. It is space-age fabulous!!! Designed by Richard T. Foster in 1968, the Rotating House is ingenious. Once inside, you can rotate the house to face any view of the beautiful property it sits on. Love it!
P.S.  Monday's post didn't appear here because of problems with Blogger. I did post a link on my Twitter and Facebook sites. Be sure and check out another amazing home there. As for the explanation of where I've been...still to come, I promise.

A Woman's Home Is Her Castle

Now THIS is real estate shopping! Last week Remodelista mentioned this home only in passing but I had to investigate it further. Wow! As it turns out there is a CASTLE for sale here in Texas. I can say I've never heard of a Texas castle, but now I know there is one in where else but Austin

The living room/lodge blows me away. I guess this is enough space for dining parties, no?

Finally, I could rule over my own little kingdom...even if I'm the only person who believes in it:)

On The Quirky Side

Hello everyone! For those of you who may wonder where I've been, I apologize for the long silence. Life's been kind of crazy lately and my blogging has been paying the price. Well, I did want to post this unique and quirky loft in New York. Designed by Bohl Architects, it uses plenty of fun and off-beat details.
Ha, ha! This detail really cracks me up. I mean, if you want a random blue eye staring at you; why not have one, right?
(I have a feeling this photo may cause some controversy amongst readers)

As a designer, I've always found it frustrating that so many people will only live with things that others approve of! I can't say how many times I've heard the words, "I need to know if my sister likes it" or "My mother", "My neighbors"...etc. Why?! If its your home and your place to live and rest, why can't it just mean something to you? I look as a home as a sanctuary and as a place that feeds your inner self. So shouldn't it be a true representation of yourself? Ahhh, this has been my soapbox for many years. I hope at least a few people will stop and consider my words and take true ownership of their environment.
Don't know why I seem so bossy today.

Can't Wait For Sunday

Normally, I save music videos for Sunday; but I had to share this today! While reading The Pursuit Aesthetic (A fantastic blog!)
I discovered Vampire Weekend's video. Love it! Maybe it will make Hump day go by a little faster:)
One more thing, check out the incredible guitars in the video. Are they vintage, I wonder? Don't know but they are cool.

Happy Halloween!

Hope you and all the little ones have a fun Halloween!
Before I sign off, I wanted to share this great idea from a client's house. She purchased a cool, vintage "Skeletal System" poster from Etsy. We then installed it in her entry as a spooky welcome for all those trick-or-treaters. I also couldn't resist posting this little cutie in such an adorable dress:)

Currently Obsessed With...

Voila, in Los Angeles!! After reading the article about them over at 1st dibs, I can't get them out of my head. It seems like a rather haunting and intense place.
That's it! I need to have black walls somewhere!
I will admit that living with all the items in this store would be over the top, but adding one or two...talk about an amazing touch. I found these photos at 1st dibs, but there are more at Viola's site.

The Fun House

From a Mad Tea Party to the Fun house. You all know how much I love eccentrics,
but lately I seem to be obsessed with them. Maybe, it has to do with how crazy my life is lately.
From the moment I laid my eyes on these photos, I felt a tug at my heart. What a great place!
This is the shop of T.C. Donebedian of San Francisco. His 1st Dibs site is a source of many unusual
objects but I think my favorite pieces are the
tail light lamps.

Could anyone feel stressed in a place like this? Although, its so much more extravagant than I would
naturally choose, I love the curious objects and eye candy.
